Misao Oguri’s career is the retirement-as-reset case. Debuted 2020 as Asuka Momose, announced retirement in February 2023, deleted her account — then returned in May 2025 under a new name as a triple exclusive at Honnaka, Das and ROYAL. The name change was the point: it was not a comeback, it was a restart.

2020–2023: Asuka Momose
She debuted in September 2020 as Asuka Momose on SOD’s “Youth Era” label. Her background was unusual: raised through a girls’-school track, she had trained at a voice-acting agency through part of college and done TV-commercial narration.
She went freelance in 2021 and held repeated campaign-girl posts (Triple Happy Campaign 2021 and 2022, Sweet Campaign and Golden Week Campaign 2022). On 18 February 2023 she announced retirement effective 31 December 2023, and deleted her account the same day.
2025: the return as Misao Oguri
On 20 May 2025 she announced the return under Misao Oguri, as a triple exclusive at Honnaka, Das and ROYAL, under the agency Jun Pro. In July 2026 she went freelance again.
The return’s scale — triple exclusivity, not a quiet re-entry — is what makes the retirement read as a reset rather than an end. She left, restarted under a new name, and was immediately placed at the industry’s top contract tier.
What this career means
The retirement that was a rebrand. Oguri’s arc shows the industry’s “retirement” mechanism being used as a reset point: she stopped as Asuka Momose and restarted as Misao Oguri, at a higher contract level. Alongside Azu Amatsuki’s two-name arc, it documents that the name is not fixed and the stop is not final. Retirement stops new production; it does not prevent it from starting again.
