Akiho Yoshizawa (吉沢明歩): Sixteen Years, a Thousand Titles, All Exclusive
Dual-contract debut at Alice Japan and Max-A in 2003, 1,000-plus titles, Pink Film awards in 2006, then the 2018 retirement announcement — and a 2020 novel written about the sixteen years. The longest exclusive career on record.
Contents
The word “legend” gets used loosely in this industry. Akiho Yoshizawa is one of the few performers the word has actually been applied to, and the record backs it: sixteen years, more than 1,000 titles, and never once out of the exclusive tier. Debut in 2003, retirement announced in 2018 — and then, the part that makes her different, she wrote a novel about it.

2003: a dual-contract debut
She came in through gravure — a Young Magazine debut in 2002, a photobook in February 2003 — and then did something unusual on entering the industry. In March 2003 she signed with Alice Japan and Max-A simultaneously. Her first titles, Angel (Alice Japan) and 18-Teens (Max-A), were released a month apart, and for the next three and a half years she alternated between the two studios.
Pink film and television
The mainstream work started early.
In 2005 she appeared as a regular in the TV Tokyo drama Jōō, the same production Sora Aoi appeared in. In 2009 she guested in the sequel Jōō Virgin.
The pink film record is the more distinctive part. Her 2005 film Kairaku no Hana was named Best Work of the Year at the 2006 Pink Grand Prix, where she also took Best Actress — and that same year she won Best Actress at the Pinky Ribbon Awards. Both of the genre’s major honours, in one year.
2007: MAXING and S1
In October 2006 she debuted at the new label MAXING, and in January 2007 transferred to S1 No. 1 Style — the flagship of the Hokuto group, home to Tsukasa Aoi and Kirara Asuka. From there she ran about one title a month across the two labels.
The awards clustered around the transition: the S1 work Hyper – Barely There Mosaic: Special Bath House Tsubaki took #1 at the 2007 AV Open, she won Best Actress at VEGASNIGHT, and in 2013 took Best Work at the Adult Broadcasting Awards.
From April 2008 she was a regular on the TV Osaka variety Onegai Muscat, and from 2008 to 2013 she was a founding member of the Ebisu Muscats.
2015: the 100th-title marker
In April 2015, MAXING released her 100th title for the studio — at that point making her its longest-serving performer. In 2012 she had placed 3rd in DMM’s all-time AV actress popularity vote, held for the industry’s 30th anniversary.
By 2018 her total was 1,000-plus titles. That volume over that many years puts her with Yui Hatano at the very top of the industry’s long-career record — and Hatano did it as a freelance performer, which makes Yoshizawa’s version distinctive: the same numbers, but entirely inside the exclusive tier.
2018: the announcement, and 2019: the end
On 1 October 2018 she announced on her blog that she would retire from AV in March.
Her final titles were released in March 2019: THE FINAL Akiho Yoshizawa AV Retirement from S1 on 7 March (a two-disc, four-hour set with a retirement documentary) and AV Complete Retirement: FINAL SEX from MAXING on 16 March. Her last fan meetup was held on 31 March 2019. Sixteen years, closed on schedule.
Her own account documents the post-retirement activity, including the novel.
The novel
The detail that makes this career unique is what came after. On 28 March 2020, a year after retiring, she published Tantai Joyu: The 16 Years I Gave to AV — a semi-autobiographical novel based on her own experience.
Plenty of performers have retired and said something about it. Almost none have written a book-length account of the industry from inside. Against the site’s recurring caveat — that the careers documented well enough to write about are the exceptional ones — Yoshizawa is the case where the performer wrote the documentation herself.
What the career means
Sixteen years, all of it exclusive. In an industry where the exclusive tier normally expires without renewal, she moved between labels but never fell to the freelance tier, and ran the whole distance as a promoted, named performer.
And she wrote the record. The novel is the difference between a long career and a documented one. It is also the last generation’s exit: like Sora Aoi’s 2011 retirement, hers predates the 2022 performer-protection law, so her catalogue predates the cancellation right almost entirely. She left when new work stopped, not when old work disappeared.
