How Japan Nightlife Guide makes money, what an affiliate link is, and what it does and does not change about what you read here.

The short version

CHONMAGE is reader-supported and free to read. Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and go on to book or buy, the operator may pay us a commission — at no additional cost to you. That is how the site is funded.

How affiliate links are marked

  • Any block containing a paid link is labelled “Sponsored” before the link, not after it.
  • The links carry rel="sponsored nofollow", in line with Google's guidelines for paid links.
  • Adult-industry offers additionally carry an 18+ marker.
  • No paid link is ever disguised as an ordinary in-text editorial link.

What a commission does not buy

  • It does not buy a recommendation. We do not accept payment in exchange for a positive review or a higher position.
  • It does not change the facts. Prices, legal information, and foreigner-entry policies are reported as we find them, including when that reflects badly on a partner.
  • It does not remove criticism. If something about a partner is worth warning you about, it stays in.
